However, the ‘King of the Zanga’ revealed that although he is still with Iconic Music, a move to DB Reocrds was imminent.

“I am still signed to Iconic Music but there’s a quest to move to DB Records. I want to pitch my tent in the international scene, that’s why we gave DB Records some consideration.

Speaking about why he has decided to make the switch, the artiste said: “I think it’s a platform for international advancement. I want Sony Records to take over the management of my music career.

“I also want international distribution for my works. D’banj is my friend; I am presently living in his house. We have not signed an official contract, but very soon, it will come to pass.”

She’s back! And already, she is taking no prisoners. Omowunmi Akinnifesi, who was Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria 2005, has just returned from a 2-year public break, armed with a Master’s degree from King’s College, London and already busy working on policy for the Lagos government.
And with beauty, and smarts, and the will to boot, the Y! magazine editors have presented her as their proud alternative to the international People magazine choice for World’s Most Beautiful Woman 2013, Iron Man actress Gwyneth Paltrow!
“The global pop-culture shock at the decision coupled with an already seething defensiveness about the audacity of deciding on the world’s most beautiful female from the comfort of the United Kingdom inspired us to take the challenge – who would we choose as the World’s Most Beautiful Woman?” the editor, Chude Jideonwo, said. “Omowunmi Akinnifesi who, incidentally took the Nigerian version of the title eight years ago, came into the country just right in time.”
The shoot is photographed by Kelechi Amadi-Obi, directed by managing editor Adebola Williams, styled by Ebun Aboderin, with the profile by Wilfried Okiche.
The magazine also includes incisive op-eds on life and country by some of the country’s best, the Y! list of the Most Influential in business and politics, and an exclusive sit-down with the Ekiti governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi.
This is rounded up with the best in the culture – music, movies, television, places, literature, radio, and some stunning fashion. “With 30 pages of fashion, and entertainment, go ahead and call it a bouquet,” Jideonwo said.
Y! is available in stores and from vendors across the country. It is also available at all House of Tara Stores in Lagos, Abuja, Ilorin, Port-Harcourt, Benin, Kano, Ibadan and Kaduna and Y! campus representatives in 19 states. You can also pay for the magazine with your mobile phone and have it delivered to you at no extra charge.
Details and more information are available on www.ynaija.com/magazine or via Twitter on @YNaijaMagazine.

This was contained in a letter addressed to the Achebe family by the couple and read by Dr. Joe Leonard Jr., Assistant Secretary for Civil Rights, US Department of Agriculture, at the Celebration of Life event for Chinua Achebe, last Sunday night, at the Andrew Mellon Auditorium, Washington, DC 20240.

According to the letter, the Obamas said: “Achebe shattered the conventions of literature and shaped the collective identity of Nigerians throughout the world. With a dream of taking on misperceptions of his homeland, he gave voice to perspectives that cultivated understanding and drew our world closer together. His legacy will endure in the hearts of all whose lives he touched with the everlasting power of his art.”

The event also featured an arts exhibition and tributes from public and private friends and dignitaries, cultural dance troupes, music, masquerades and tributes.

In addition, there was a theatrical production of a scene from Achebe’s Things Fall Apart, by a theatre group led by Professor Chuck Mike, who was previously based in Nigeria.

Sources say Mike reportedly had the audience laughing with his rendition of his experiences in Nigeria and the idiosyncratic tendency of Nigerians to respond with the phrase “we thank God” when asked a variety of questions in various scenarios.

Speakers at the event included the host, Johnnetta Cole, President Emeritus of Spelman and Bennet Colleges and now director of the Smithonian Museum of African Art; Ruth Simmons, former president of Brown University, Poets Sonia Sanchez, Micere Mugo and Simon Gikandi, Scott Moyers, president of Penguin, and Jules Chametzky, Professor Emeriti of Umass Amherst, where the late Achebe spent time in the 1970s and 80s.

The entertainer was nominated in the Best New act category alongside Burna Boy, Sean Tizzle, Seyi Shay, AjeButter 22 and Dammy Krane.

“I am excited about the nomination, it just means that all the work we have been putting in since I came back to Nigeria in 2011 isn’t in vain”, he says.

Last year, Ketchup hit the music industry with “Show me yuh Rozay”, the hit single that rapidly shot him to limelight. With one single rocking radio land, the streets, clubs, bars and TV, Ketchup says he’s grabbing 2013 with both arms, putting his best foot forward to make sure he records a spectacular outing this year. And already, he has two new materials on the way!

It is a few days to the release of the hugely anticipated singles, and there is no doubt that Ketchup is ready for the next step in his career “I’ve practically been living in the studios for months now’, says Ketchup, who is signed to Lagos-based label PoshHills Entertainment. ‘It’s been a period of mixed blessings–I’m glad I’m getting such amazing support for my career, and I’m humbled by the growth I’ve recorded since the release of “Show Me Yuh Rozay”

Ketchup’s new singles, Pay As you Go and Coco Banana featuring Banky W will hit the airwaves on Tuesday June 11, 2013
