7-Zip, an open and free file compression program, was released in version 19. The developers added in principle only one important novelty: improved security of encrypted archives.

7-Zip uses LZMA and LZMA2 algorithms to create archives in its own 7z format. In addition, it can pack in files in the XZ, BZIP2, GZIP, TAR, ZIP and WIM archives, where its creators boast ZIP compression by 2 to 10 percent. better than competitive WinZip. In addition, 7-Zip is able to unpack almost 30 other archive formats. It’s worth having it at hand.

Longer keys
In version 19.00 of the 7-Zip program, several bugs were fixed and the security of 7z encrypted archives was improved. The size of the random initialization vector, i.e. the sequence of random numbers that will be part of the key, has been increased. As a result, the key length has increased from 64 to 128 bits. Since the key is longer, the code is more difficult to break. The operation of the pseudorandom number generator has also been improved, resulting in a more diverse output.
The other features of the 7-Zip program and its appearance remain unchanged.
